Birds of the Big Bend

The 277 species on the checklist of the St Marks Wildlife Refuge serve as an illustration of the diversity of birdlife in this region.

The 155 species on the checklist of the San Luis Mission Park serve as an illustration of the diversity of birdlife found within our very own city limits.

The 147 species on the checklist of the Black Swamp serve as another illustration of the diversity of birdlife found within our very own city limits.

Every spring a one week period is selected during which we conduct our "Birdathon" fundraiser. Groups form to see how many different avian species they can observe within a 24 hour period (and of course donations are solicited to support the chapters activities: meetings, field trips, environmental projects, Audubon Adventures kits donated to local area elementary schools). below are the year by year combined results of all the groups who participated in the last few "birdathon" adventures. These lists serve as illustrations of the diversity of birdlife to be found within our local area during the spring migration.
